Separating Solids in Year 4

Year 4 have been looking at how to separate solids in science focusing on the skills of making predictions and investigating. It has been messy but fun!

Mummification in Year 5

Year 5 have had a go at mummification. Continuing on with our Ancient Egyptian topic we learnt how the Egyptians used to mummify their dead by covering their bodies in a special salt called Natron. We had a go ourselves using baking soda and salt. We even carved faces into the apples to make them […]

Solids, liquids and gases in Year 4

This week, Year 4 have been learning about solids, liquids and gases. In small groups, we categorised different materials into a solid, liquid or gas based on their properties and discussed whether some materials could fit into more than one.

Blood in Year 6

The circulatory system is the Year 6 topic in science this half term.  Our first lesson involved taking a closer look at blood and its contents.  We created our own using cheerios and red food colouring for red blood cells, marshmallows for white blood cells, hundreds and thousands for platelets and orange squash for the […]

Electrical Investigations in Year 6

In Year 6, we have continued to explore electricity.  We have been investigating three different questions: Does wire length affect the brightness of a bulb in a circuit? Do the amount of components (bulbs/buzzers) affect how they work in a circuit? Does the voltage of a battery affect how the components in a circuit work?

Instructions and Plants in Year 2

In Year 2 we have been looking at instructions. We followed some instructions for jam sandwiches and learnt that instructions need a title, an equipment list, bullet points, numbers, diagrams and imperative verbs. All of the information within the instructions helped us make the perfect jam sandwich for the giant to eat. As well as […]

Forest School in Year 1

In Forest School this week Year 1 continued to looking at materials and their properties. They made predictions and tested whether objects floated or sank, and also helped a mermaid make a new tail out of a waterproof material. The focus was on looking carefully and carrying out a test.

Electrical challenges in Year 6

Year 6 have started their electricity topic, in science, by completing a set of challenges to refresh their knowledge of electrical circuits.  They also took part in a Dragons’ Den briefing session and learnt about the challenges that lie ahead as designers of festive lights and decorations with an electric buzz.

‘Saving the Chocolate’ in Year 5

In Year 5 this week, one of things we have been learning about in Science are thermal conductors and thermal insulators. We have conducted an exciting experiment where the children were tasked with ‘Saving the Chocolate‘. They had to decide which material they thought would be the best insulator to stop the chocolate from melting, […]

British Science Week

Today lots of classes swapped and were taught by children from another year group. In year 3 we taught some of the Year 6 children all about camouflage. The children had done their research and helped to plan the lesson. They spoke clearly about the animal they had researched and the Year 6 children all […]
