Science Week in Year 1

Year 1 kicked off their Science Week with a visit from Tim Kaye from Cultivating Learning and Nature.  They examined creatures found in our pond including tadpoles and leeches and then explored creatures found on land such as shiny woodlice and some impressive worms.   We had a fantastic time and learned a lot. 

Maths in Year 1

This week in Maths, we have been practising counting in tens and recognising how many tens are in the numbers 20-50. We played a fun game where we had to throw the bean bags into two hoops, one represented tens and the other ones, and work out what number was being was thrown!

World Book Day in Year 1

Year 1 had a great time for World Book Day.  We made bookmarks using our words, we made a word search and we read to our perfect pets throughout the day. 

Clarice Cliff in Year 1

This week in Year 1, we have learnt all about Clarice Cliff and have spent lots of time looking at and admiring her various artwork. This inspired us to apply our colour mixing skills we have learnt over Spring term to paint a plate in her style, with concentric circles in both primary and secondary colours. 

Forest School in Year 1

This week 1S had their final session.  They were looking for signs of spring.  The garden is really coming to life.  They identified trees and plants by looking at their buds, made a car and a house, extended the assault course and even saw frogspawn.

Wellness Week in Year 1

Forest School in Year 1

Last week in forest we were looking for signs of spring.  We talked about deciduous and evergreen trees and some children identified trees by looking at their buds. There was also a racing car built and a hotel.
