Year 5 & Year 6 Maths Ambassadors

We are delighted to be able to offer some Year 5 & Year 6 pupils the chance to become a Maths Ambassador for this term.  This is a hugely prestigious role that is essentially to act as a Maths mentor to a child in Year 3.

The role will require each Maths Ambassador to deliver a supportive 20 minute session twice a week over an 8 week period.  During each session, they will cover such areas as place value, halving and doubling, number bonds to 20 as well as inverse operations.

The mentoring sessions will take place during the mornings with adult support, after which time they will return to their lessons as normal.

We hope this will be a hugely rewarding experience for the children involved as they gain confidence in their own mathematical understanding through the teaching of basic mathematical concepts.  Helping to support the learning of others is particularly important as studies have repeatedly shown that children learn more from their peers than in any other way.

In order to help the Maths Ambassadors to prepare, we will be providing a special training course on Thursday 12th January at Hereford Football Ground where they will take part in a number of workshops.  They will need to come to school at the usual time and collected as normal.  Uniform should be worn and they will need a suitable coat and footwear in the event of wet or cold weather.  Lunch and refreshments will be provided by the school.

Please ensure you have returned the consent form for your child to participate.  We look forward to working with your child on this exciting opportunity.
