Celebrating British Science Week

British science week started off with paint dancing on speakers and inflating marshmallow astronauts. After an exciting assembly, where the children discussed what qualities a good scientist should have and key stage 1 discovered that girls can be scientists too, the children set off on a science filled week.
In year 6 the children shook strange jars of liquid and made butter. This prompted many questions for independent investigations such as “Is my butter better than shop bought butter?” ” If I whisked it instead of shaking it would it still work?” “What happens if I put sugar in it?”

Later in the week we had an extended visit from Selwyn from ‘Science in a suitcase’. He brought over 30 different fascinating objects for the children to explore in a class workshop. The children were able to ask questions as they freely observed what was happening. The children from reception and their parents also had a chance to talk about the objects in their visit after school. The children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to touch and handle the objects and were all fired up about science. We encouraged them to ask what if? questions that they could perhaps investigate in the classroom.
