Administration of Medicines

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you of our procedures when your child/children require medication during the school day.

It is preferable for Doctors to prescribe medicines at times that allow your child to take them outside of school hours.

If this is not possible, we ask that you complete and sign a parental agreement for school to administer medicine form.

The form is available on our website and can be printed off and completed at home to save time in the mornings. Alternatively, you may collect a form from the office.

We are not able to give any prescription medicines without written parental consent. Medicines MUST be in date, labelled and provided in the original container (except in the case of insulin which may come in a pen or a pump) with dosage instructions. Medicines which do not meet these criteria will not be administered.

We are not able to give any non-prescription medicines/treatments E.g eyedrops

In the case of painkillers, ie Calpol, this MUST be prescribed by your GP. We cannot give over-the-counter analgesia, even if your GP has advised this.

If you have any queries regarding this please do not hesitate to contact us. A copy of our policy regarding “Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions” is available on request.

Thank you for your on-going support and understanding in this matter.
