Welcome to Lord Scudamore Academy.

My mother often talks about her school days as if they were yesterday and can recount many happy memories of her time as pupil of Lord Scudamore Academy in the 1940s.

Without a doubt our school days leave a lasting impression on us. In addition to memories, our school days contribute towards shaping us into the adults we become and influence decisions we take. Therefore, all those involved in education hope their input will have a positive impact on the lives of the children they work with.

The core values of “Love, Support and Achieve” underpin everything at Lord Scudamore Academy. They contribute towards children achieving their academic potential; the latest OFSTED inspection reported that the school continues to be “Good”. Pupils “achieve well” and make “good progress in all key stages”.

In addition to academic progress which lays the foundation for future choices around careers, the core values also contribute towards helping children develop as well- rounded individuals, as well as creating those happy memories. OFSTED found, children “enjoy attending this school” and say the school is “like one big family”. Pupils are “kind and considerate” and are “happy and feel safe”.

Although the day-to-day running of a school is the responsibility of the Headteacher, the role of the Governors is to:

– help shape the school’s strategic direction,

– act as a critical friend – supporting, challenging and ensuring accountability for the performance of the school,

– have an oversight of the school’s finances.

I am delighted to be invited to be Chair of Governors and look forward to playing my part in the continuing success of Lord Scudamore Academy.
