Christopher Columbus in Year 4

thumbnail_Art

In History, the children learnt all about Christopher Columbus and his voyages around the world. We discovered that Christopher Columbus made several trips to try to find a quicker sailing route to Asia. In the countries that he explored on his journeys, he found lots of different foods that were not grown in Europe. Columbus’ voyages led to some of these new foods being traded and introduced to Europe.

The children then developed their ideas for 3D art work based on some of the foods Columbus traded and introduced to Europe, these foods included, avocado, pineapple, papaya, guava and corn. They experimented with chalk and oil-based pastels and explored how they could use their tools to create different textures, shades and lines.
