Volcanoes and Pompeii in Year 3

volcano

This week in Year 3 we have been finding out how volcanoes are formed. We have been looking at videos and photographs of volcanic eruptions including the amazing images of the volcano in Iceland that has erupted in the last week.  We have been finding out about where the lava comes from and how an eruption occurs.

This term we have also been finding out about the Roman Empire. In 79AD Mount Vesuvius erupted in Italy destroying the town of Pompeii. We have been exploring some of the archaeological remains which have been found at the site and what they tell us about life in Pompeii 2000 years ago.

This artefact was found in Pompeii.
